February 4, 2017
We were able to book a room for February 16. The second piece of good news is that Sandy was able to book a speaker for us. His name is Marc Knez, from Digital Treasury Group. He will tell us how we can preserve, display and share the photos, documents and media information that we have been collecting for so many years. He will be happy to answer questions and look at something puzzling we might want to bring in. This sounds so interesting.
As usual, our meeting will be held at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, in the Boardroom at 7 p.m. We hope this date doesn't conflict with other plans you may have. In case of bad weather, please check our website.
Our December, 2016 and January, 2017 notifications were published only at our regular web site.
The cooler weather is here. Guess we must expect this in November.
Unfortunately, all the rooms were booked when we applied for November 10th. We applied again the following week and were able to book the main boardroom, for Thursday, November 17, 7 to 9 p.m. That's at the usual place: The Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall.
Even though it will be a week after Remembrance Day, we would still like to hear about your relatives who served their country. If you had to search for information on these people, we'd like to hear how and where you got your results.
There have already been some informative programs on TV about the wars these people served in. Last week, "For King and Country" recounted a battle the D Day Dodgers encountered as they fought their way up through Italy in WW2. Maybe some of your relatives were there.
Hope to see you November 17th.
Fall is here and it's time to get back together with our EGG friends again. It certainly was a long hot summer. Maybe we'll have a lovely Fall.
We are looking forward to 'catching up' with everyone and finding out what you learned or where you went this summer. Remember: new computer sites you happened upon could be of interest to the rest of us. If you have a stumbling block, tell us briefly and perhaps someone can help.
We have meeting room #1 downstairs booked for 7 p.m., Thursday October 13, 2016. It's at our usual location which is the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Etobicoke, Ontario.
We look forward to seeing everyone and sharing stories and information. See you soon.
We'll meet in our usual place, the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall on Thursday, May 12th, at 7 p.m. We'll meet in the boardroom, which is just inside the front door. This will be our last meeting until the fall.
We are pleased to tell you that John Maniezzo will show us pictures he has taken around Etobicoke and he will tell us about some history of the area. It sounds very interesting.
We'll have light refreshments to end the meeting. This is always a nice time to socialize. Some of you have brought nibblies in the past and this would again be welcome.
See you soon.
Our meeting this month will be on April 14, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Boardroom at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall in Etobicoke. You might have heard on the news that the Civic Centre was vandalized. There are two buildings and the damage was done to the building beside the one we have our meetings in, so we will be fine for our meeting.
Ruth Blair will be our guest speaker for the evening. Her topic will be "A Brick Wall Chisel: The Cluster Research Project". It sounds interesting. A few of us from EGG have been to workshops she has given. We always come away having learned something new.
We have our Thursday, March 10th, 7:00 p.m. meeting booked at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall. We will use meeting room #1 downstairs. It looks like the city facility will be open. If the meeting has to be cancelled for weather or building closure, we'll post it on our website.
There seemed to be lots of discussion about DNA testing at the end of the evening in February. We realize there are lots of questions about this subject. Perhaps a roundtable type of discussion will help sort out our thoughts and question. Some of you have already had your DNA done and you can enlighten the rest of us. It would also be interesting to find out if any of you pursued the social media sites discussed in February, with positive results. We sure like to hear success stories.
See you on the tenth.

We will hold our February 11, 2016 meeting at 7:00 p.m. in room # 2 (downstairs) at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall.
We'll be talking about genealogy and how social media can help us (e.g. podcasts, Facebook, blogs, etc. and where to find these). There are lots of things out there that we'd like clarified and to hear if they have been useful to you. There is also some computer terminology that some of us would like explained. Bring your questions along and we'll share our knowledge.
Remember to check our website *if* the weather is questionable.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone! So far, so good weather-wise.
We have the Boardroom booked for our next meeting, Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 7 p.m., at our usual place. That's the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Etobicoke.
Our own Bruce McClure will tell us about newly found information in one of his lines. He received a couple of boxes from his cousin's daughter which hold many treasures. Very exciting.
Looking forward to seeing everyone. Remember... If you discovered a new place to search, we'd like to hear about it.
We have the Boardroom booked at our usual location (the Etobicoke Civic Centre) for Thursday, December 10, 7 p.m., for our Christmas Genealogy meeting.
We'd love to hear what your Christmas traditions are, present or past. If there is an artifact involved, we'd love to see it. Janet Brown will give a short presentation, using the overhead projector, about one of her lines, which uncovered a few surprises.
We'll have refreshments and social time after the break. If you'd like to bring a few goodies, they would be much appreciated.
Keep in mind that December is here and with that, weather surprises. If there is a bad storm on any of our meeting nights, check your email and/or our website about a cancellation.
See you soon.
Our November meeting is confirmed for Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, Etobicoke, Ontario. The meeting is being held one week earlier than usual (we were unable to reserve a room for the regular date).
Hello, everyone. Fall is in the air and the Blue Jays are creating a lot of excitement.
We have the Boardroom booked for Thursday, October 8, 2015 at our usual location, the Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall.
I have a couple of bags of books, magazines and newsletters to recycle. You wouldn't believe the tips I have rediscovered scanning these items. Bring along any you may want to pass along.
We are looking forward to hearing about any discoveries you have made since the Spring. You may also have found some new Internet sites or you may be working on a project you could share with us.
It's a long time since we've been together. Can't wait to see you all and "catch up".
See you October 8th.
We held our final meeting of this season on Thursday, May 14, 2015. Our next meeting is not scheduled until October, 2015. Please check back here later in the year for details.
